Safety Superintendent (mining /opencast / auditing / investigations) – West Africa

Job Description: 
Our client is currently seeking to employ a Safety Superintendent to provide advice on the development and implementation of safety services (training, resources and services) for their opencast operations in West Africa. 
• Ensure risk assessments are conducted on critical equipment, systems, procedures and tasks within the responsibility areas.
• Conduct regular safety talks with subordinates to reinforce EHS and related messages and decisions.
• Assist with coordinating health and hygiene programs appropriate to the role
• Display and promote personal safety and the safety of others
• Support the management of relationships with internal and external stakeholders through a coordinated approach including attendance at regular meetings. 
• Provision of robust and cost effective services for operations which contribute to the achievement of business goals
• Contribute to EHS policy and procedure formulation.
• Ensure adherence to EHS policies, procedures, programmes, practices and campaigns within the section
• Manage the safety function consistent with corporate policies and standards.
Requirements: Qualification and Skill 
• Tertiary qualification in safety management or related fields
• A minimum of 5-10 years in a safety leadership role.
• Experience in incident investigations/emergency management/emergency response
• Auditing experience
• Capacity to handle complex situations, make decisions under pressure and handle ambiguity.
• Ability to lead a business unit through significant change
• Strong communication skills, including the ability to facilitate groups and present information
• Competent in the safe management of minerals processing and mining operations
• Commercially literate and capable of improving the commerciality of the organisation
• Ability to develop fit for purpose processes and procedures aimed at achieving safe production
• Knowledgeable in relevant legislation pertaining to Sierra Leone
• Good general knowledge of project development and safety standards
• Ability to manage a culturally complex operation in a developing country environment.
