Senior Mine Planning Engineer (Mining Engineering / Open pit / Medium Planning / Copper) – DRC, Central Africa

Job Description:
The main duties of the successful incumbent will be to develop and design the long and medium-term mine and dump plans and plan the mining schedule; to handle complex technical assignments; to analyse current engineering processes, systems and procedures, report shortcomings and suggest improvements to optimise the mine. This role reports directly in to the Mine Planning Superintendent.
  • Identify shortcomings and suggest improvements to existing processes, systems and procedures
  • Deliver a plan for a small section of a change management programme, with guidance from a project / programme manager
  • Optimise medium-term mine plan / schedule, by using relevant software
  • Recommend ways to improve support for operations by changing policies, processes, standards and practices
  • Ensure the mine plan complies with Company health policies
  • Work without supervision and provide technical guidance on developing, monitoring, interpreting and understanding policies and procedures, aligning to organisational strategies and objectives, when required
  • Organise and prepare complex documents by using multiple computer applications (such as Microsoft Office), while also gathering and summarising data for monthly mining reports
  • Develop and/or deliver elements of a strategic planning system, with guidance from Senior colleagues
  • Plan the medium-term mine plans, according to targets discussed
  • Analyse specified problems and issues to find the best technical and/or professional solutions, as and when required
  • Use comprehensive knowledge and skills to work independently, while providing guidance and training to others on planning, organising, prioritising and overseeing activities to efficiently meet business objectives
  • Track budgets and bring variances to the attention of Senior colleagues, while working within established budgeting systems
  • Deliver specified outcomes and/or provide support services within a designated area of audit control by working within established systems
  • Use comprehensive knowledge and skills to work independently on costing, budgeting and finance tasks, while providing guidance and training to others
Requirements: Qualification and Skill
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mining Engineering
  • At least 8 years’ experience in a Mining and planning environment
  • Must have at least 7 years open pit mining experience
  • Must have previous expat experience
  • Good proficiency in English and cross-cultural communication skills
