Mine Engineering Superintendent (Mining / Mine Planning / Gold / Surpac / Caving / Stoping / Underground) – West Africa

Job Description:
Manage the technical services areas of the underground mine and when required, perform general mine planning duties including, but not restricted to development and stoping planning & design, short and long-term scheduling, budget preparation, cave flow modelling, ventilation surveys and modelling, pumping design and modelling, costing, report writing, mine project work and mentoring junior national engineers. This role reports directing in to the U/G Mining Manager. Directly supervises Mine Planning Engineers and Mine Production Engineers.

  • Work closely with the Geologists, Surveyors, Senior Engineers and Production Superintendent, to ensure grade control, exploration, productivity and cost goals are incorporated and implemented in mine plans
  • Manage the ventilation and pumping systems and plan, design and implement new extensions as the mine grows
  • Undertake project work including equipment selection and performance monitoring, site construction activities, emergency response and other project activities associated with setting up and developing a new mine
  • Training of Malian counterpart, and other Malian employees within workgroup as required in line with their skill sets
  • Work to achieve results by taking personal accountability for individual  and team objectives
Requirements: Qualification and Skill
  • Bachelor of Engineering (Mining) from a recognised tertiary institution
  • At least 10 years’ underground mine planning experience within a highly mechanised environment, preferably with Sub-Level Cave exposure
  • At least 5 years’ experience in a Senior Mine Planning role
  • 3 years SLC or Block Cave experience
  • Hands on experience within the Underground Production environment
  • Proficient in both Surpac and Deswik software
  • Underground Drill and Blast Design; Underground Ventilation management, design and modelling
  • Experience with managing mining contractors
  • French speaking advantageous
