Maintenance Superintendent (Plant Maintenance / Engineering / Mechanical / Mining / EHS / MARC) – West Africa

Job Description:
The Maintenance Superintendent role is pivotal for the operational function of company equipment and machinery. The successful candidate for the role will be required to manage the engineering functions on the Plant to ensure the safe and efficient maintenance and repair of the equipment and machinery for optimum extraction Ore.

Responsibilities:
  • Reviews and revises the planned maintenance strategy
  • Take charge of the planned maintenance activities
  • Ensures the opportunity- based maintenance /repair during plant downtime are carried out
  • Prioritizes and supervises the tasks of subordinates in the section and monitors and appraises performance as appropriate
  • Identifies areas of engineering and financial improvement in the plant and actions approved projects
  • Must be willing to assist subordinates in the diagnosis of engineering breakdown problems
  • Ensures that the repair and returns services of breakdowns to equipment and machinery are done quickly
  • Ensures that machinery settings are optimal for the efficient separation of heavy minerals
  • Communicates with other departments for assistance where required
  • Submits a monthly report on engineering activities to the manager
  • Identifies the training and development needs of subordinates and forward these to the departmental head
  • Ensures that the agreed training and development plans are met
  • Ensures that staffing requirements are met in conjunction with the departmental head
  • Prepares inputs into the annual budget and administers the sectional allocation.
  • Ensure adherence to Environmental Health and Safety policies, procedures, practices and campaigns across resettlement
  • Ensure risk assessments are conducted on critical areas, systems, procedures and tasks
  • Conduct regular health and safety talks with subordinates
  • Ensure safety procedures applicable to the department are understood and followed
 
Requirements: Qualification and Skill
  • A Mechanical Engineering degree  
  • 10 years’ relevant work experience, at least 2 years’ must have been in an Engineering management role
  • A valid driving license
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of the procedures applicable to the plant engineering work environment to ensure that work outcomes are compliant to the policies and procedures
  •  knowledge and understanding of the work methods and techniques both mechanical and electrical applied in the engineering maintenance of the Plant
  • The ability to examine a machine or equipment that has broken down and correctly determine the fault so that repairs can be conducted to return the machine / equipment to service as speedily as possible.
  • The ability to plan, organise, lead and control in the work environment to achieve the business objectives
