Country Manager (General Management/ Re Engineering/ Feasibility / Start Up / Operation ) - Southern Africa

Job Description:

Our client is seeking a Country General Manager to be accountable for their mining project in Southern Africa.

  • The primary function of this position is to manage the all business affairs in country relating to the mining operation, re engineering programs & feasibility study.
  • Providing clear decision making and working with HO Management to ensure the company achieves milestones, agreed targets and sustainability; including implementing global process and procedures, best practices and effective cost control for the business.
  • Responsible for managing and working with the in country team on the development of and adherence to departmental budgets, review, analyse and business, and provide input into performance, profitability and support growth in a timely and accurate manner while ensuring that the internal systems operate effectively.
  • To provide timely, accurate and informative reporting to the corporate team.
  • Be conversant with the policies, procedures and pertaining to all subordinates
  • Ensuring responsible business stewardship of the company’s activity in the country of operation.
  • Ensuring compliance with legislative and corporate requirements.
  • Identifying, evaluating and addressing risks and opportunities relating to the operation and other in country activities
  • 10 - 20 years experience with managing operations in an open pit environment in a  multi or cross functional teams ennvironment
  • Proven ability to effectively report into Senior Management,
  • Significant experience in a management role ideally within a mining/ resources environment,
  • Experience in management of operations, re development projects and feasibility studies.
  • Fluency in English essential
  • Qualifications in a relevant field, such as Mine Engineering, Geology/Geoscience or other
  • Ability to show initiative and accept responsibility and accountability,
  • Positive, independent and resilient attitude,
  • Able to be resourceful, innovative and use own initiative,
  • Flair for understanding the business operations including technicalities that may arise,
  • Flair for business planning & insight,
  • Engineering degree in mining related field and/or degree or equivalent tertiary qualifications in business.
  • Relevant professional membership.
  • Significant site operational experience in Africa /remote locations in developing countries.   
  • Experience in strategic planning and execution with a global environment.
  • Demonstrated proven success in driving projects and business toward achieving the intended business results within contracted time and budget.
  • Community, Government and landowner management experience.
