Job Description:
Assisting the Head of Compliance, Africa to support operations and development in Central Africa; to ensure the implementation, maintenance and improvement of business compliance and risk processes and tools, accompany its development, ensure the implementation, oversight and monitoring of the Group’s ethical standards, codes and rules and liaise with Group Compliance.
  • Monitoring the performance of the Program and related activities on a continuing basis, taking appropriate steps to improve its effectiveness
  • Updating, implementing and maintaining an effective compliance communication program, including by promoting (a) use of the Compliance Hotline; (b) heightened awareness of Code of Conduct, and (c) understanding new and existing compliance issues and related policies and procedures
  • Contributing to the development and review of annual compliance plans for the Group and the Africa Region that meet the Group’s objectives
  • Creating, maintaining, and updating risk registers
  • Managing / Performing continuous risk assessments - recognising, analysing, and appropriately categorising risks
  • Assisting with the management of cases through the Navex system and ensure that matters are updated in Navex as they progress
  • Developing and managing an effective system by which to respond to alleged violations of the Code of Conduct, Group policies and procedures, and laws and regulations in the Africa region in accordance with the Group Whistleblowing and Investigations Policy (“WHIP”)
  • Conducting investigations into reports of non-compliance in accordance with the WHIP
  • Assisting with investigations into reports of non-compliance in accordance with the WHIP, where required
  • Developing a system to ensure that all responses, and any subsequent investigations, into to reports of misconduct are appropriately documented at each stage, and that records are kept in accordance with Group policies and procedures
  • Managing or conducting audits of operations to identify possible weaknesses or risks
  • Monitoring and advising upon implementation of policies and procedures
  • Assisting with writing up new and updating existing compliance related policies and procedures taking into consideration, among other things, compliance monitoring review findings
  • Conducting due diligence in accordance with risk, and escalate complex matters, where necessary, to Group Compliance and/or legal and/or external experts in accordance with Group policies and procedures
  • Ensuring GHT policies and procedures are understood and followed, and that registers are kept up to date
  • Dealing with requests for CSR projects in the region, and escalating where appropriate
  • Responding to incident reports, managing, and conducting internal investigations. Resolving incidents appropriately
  • Liaising with and monitoring the compliance activities of other departments and providing assistance to those departments, where required, in order to coordinate compliance and ensure the uniform delivery of the Compliance Program across the Africa region
  • Championing a values-based compliance culture
  • Ensuring that the compliance program is effective and efficient in identifying, preventing, detecting, and correcting noncompliance with applicable laws and regulations, including proper auditing and reporting functions
  • Building relationships with key stakeholders and ensuring excellent relations throughout the Organization
  • Collaborating with others to improve processes and procedures
  • Ensuring employees across are fully trained on Code of Conduct and policies and procedures, including the whistleblowing procedure, and that this training is refreshed at appropriate intervals
  • Delivering training on-site in the Africa region
  • Ensuring that compliance updates are regularly communicated to
  • Ensuring appropriate, risk based CPDD is conducted in all relevant cases in a timely and efficient manner
  • Assessing and Monitoring new and existing counterparties to identify and mitigate risks associated with their relationship with the Company on an on-going basis
  • Collaborating and liaising with Group Compliance regarding complex and/or high risk matters as required by Group policies and procedures, and to request/give advice and share learning’s
  • Collaborating with other departments (e.g., Risk, Internal Audit, Forensic, HR, etc.) to direct compliance issues to appropriate existing channels for investigation and resolution
Requirements: Qualification and Skill
  • Qualification(s): Bachelor’s degree in Business/Law           
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a compliance/risk position
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience within the mining /energy / oil & gas / construction industry
  • French speaker
