Job Description:
Our client is a globally diversified mining company with multiple operations across South Africa. We are looking for a Superintendent Rock Engineer to provide technical support, governance, and guidance to Ops / Projects design / expansions.
 
Responsibilities:
  • Degree / National Diploma in Mining Engineering / Natural Sciences / Geology (Essential)
  • a Minimum of 5 years relevant experience in underground coal mining and Rock Engineering
  • 2 years must have been in a Supervisory Capacity (Essential)
  • Chamber of Mines Rock Mechanics Certificate is essential with a Coal Certificate (Essential)
  • MSc Mining Engineering (Geotechnical) – Advantageous
  • In depth knowledge of rock engineering practices is essential
  • Exposure to room and pillar and surface mining methods would be advantageous
  • Knowledge of relevant mining and environmental legislation is essential
  • Knowledge in MS Office is essential
  • A valid driver’s license is essential
  • South African Nationals are encouraged to apply
 
Requirements: Qualification and Skill
  • Designs and owns technical standards, frameworks, and practices applicable to the region
  • Designs, owns, and executes governance for rock engineering technical standards such as underground roof support standard as well as the Codes of Practice for rock falls
  • Comply with departmental budget
  • Provides technical support to Ops / Projects design / expansions, relating to rock engineering activities
  • Drives the consistent expectations, understanding and application of rock engineering principles across senior leadership
  • Provides guidance to Senior Leadership on technical risk management and relevant mitigating actions
  • Ensure replication of improvement initiatives across mines.
