Mining Manager (Open Pit / Gold / Underground / Blasting Certificate) – Zimbabwe

Job Description:
Our client is seeking a skilled Mining Manager whose overall responsibility is to interact with all mining disciplines to develop and excavate chambers, dams, settlers, tunnels, declines, inclines and stopping in a safe and sustainable way.
 
Responsibilities:
  • Comprehensive safety and risk management skills
  • Sound knowledge of regulations impacting mining in Zimbabwe, including in-depth knowledge of legal liabilities
  • Provide input into the development of the business plan. Analyze business plans and develop functional plans.
  • Ensure operational readiness in terms of executing the business plan
  • Ensure operating standards and procedures are up-to-date and understood by the team
  • Monitor daily and weekly production measurements and results and initiate corrective action
  • Ensure appropriate and pre-determined ore quality and quantity are produced at consistent levels of performance
  • Ensure section performance is aligned to the planned performance levels for stopping and development
  • Monitor and control the efficient distribution of plant, equipment, and consumables in accordance with planning schedules
  • Identify defects and liaise with relevant department to ensure resolution
  • Track projects against plans and contract and monitor project schedules and resource allocations
  • Analyze labor utilization and identify trends and possible areas for improvement
  • Provide resources required to maintain a safe and healthy work environment
  • Scrutinize reports from service departments and take remedial action where required
  • Maintain ongoing awareness of any problems that arise and ensure prompt remediation (and/or escalation)
  • Manage, control, and improve production and mining operations, including contractor performance, safety, quality, production, cost and continuous improvement
  • Monitor project schedules, resource allocations and labor utilization
  • Ensure establishment and adherence to a maintenance management system
  • Support the creation and execution of an appropriate control environment
  • Assess the quality of work performed by contractors in line with contractual requirements
  • Co-ordinate work output across departments
  • Identify and mitigate risks, threats, and disablers to performance
  • Analyze and identify opportunities to enhance efficiencies and minimize wastage and engage in continuous business improvement projects
  • Manage and control accident and incident investigation processes and root cause analyses and take corrective actions
  • Ensure risk assessments are conducted to eliminate, minimize, and control risks
  • Inspect underground conditions, report substandard operations/ conditions, and enforce corrective action
  • Identify causes of and prevent below standard operating conditions.  Evaluate negative trends and introduce remedial solutions. Communicate changes where applicable
  • Plan, direct and assess quality management within function and implement remedial actions where necessary to ensure adherence to TQM principles
  • Ensure implementation of remedial actions
  • Provide clear goal alignment, vision, and direction for the production function
  • Lead through example and living the code of conduct
  • Create an enabling environment for the development and empowerment of people and recognize value-added performance
  • Assess team adherence to disciplinary and behavioral practices and procedures, identify and address deviations
  • Ensure adequate staffing and work with HR to action accordingly
  • Select and place candidates in terms of agreed recruitment and selection process
  • Develop and motivate staff through effective leadership, mentoring, coaching, performance improvement and the creation and implementation of Personal Development Plans
  • Monitor implementation of training needs in line with PDPs
  • Build a culture of high performance through regular performance monitoring and feedback against agreed objectives
 
 
Requirements: Qualification and Skill
  • English + Shona / Ndelebe
  • Registered with relevant professional body (as required)
  • 5+ years’ experience from obtaining a Blasting Certificate with a track-record of safety management and team leadership
  • Conventional, trackless, board and pillar experience
  • Hold a valid Blasting Certificate and Mine Overseers’ Certificate of Competency
  • Mine Manager’s Certificate (advantageous)
  • Valid Code EB Driver’s License
  • Valid First Aid certificate
  • Complies with relevant legal appointment requirements
  • Knowledge of a variety of mining methods
  • Job related knowledge and exposure to the following fields are essential: stoping, mine development, shafts, survey, ventilation, rock engineering, geology, accounting, engineering and HR and employee relations (IR / ER)
