Service Manager Africa (Mineral Processing / Spare Parts / Engineering / PM / Field Service) – Gauteng, South A

Job Description:
Our client is a multinational engineering company who require a Service Manager Africa. Their main duties are to drive service growth by: Ensuring technical competence of Field Service personnel; Building customer confidence in Service capabilities throughout the Africa region; Be the technical liaison for the customer base in Africa; Provide technical support for initiatives to enable conclusion of SLA’s and parts agreements in the regions. This reports directly into the Head of Service Operations.
  • Support and drive Service growth by ensuring technical competence and customer confidence in Service capabilities throughout the Africa region
  • Develop Field Service and other execution staff in the various regions to execute work according to Company requirements
  • Management of resources to enable cost effective service is provided to customers
  • Coordinate resource requirements with the core Field Service team based in South Africa
  • Facilitate detailed technical discussions on service related topics with clients to compile accurate scope, cost, schedule and service level agreements
  • Manage Field Service staff and schedules in Africa
  • Execution of service projects through inspections and audits, reports, repair, maintenance and project work
  • Internal customers are supported through analyses and information as well as required actions distributed to the various departments
  • Ensure high quality reports are completed within allowed time and distributed and or discussed internally and with customer
  • Coordinate any Service activity being executed in the regions
  • Deliver on strategic KPI’s assigned to the function
  • High level of customer interaction and follow up required
  • Ensure technical compliance of equipment, tools and machines to legal, client and internal safety requirements
  • Develop regional contracting companies to provide the necessary extension in capacity and capabilities
  • Plan and actively manage budget assigned
  • Investigate, develop and implement process development and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Manage processes to ensure pro-active management of product issue and actions in collaboration with Head of Operations
  • Develop and implement good practice maintenance capability through the use of proven management tools and employee development initiatives
  • Performance management and development of assigned personnel
  • Implementation of continuous improvement directives to deliver best practice
Requirements: Qualification and Skill
  • Diploma in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or relevant technical qualification
  • Project Management certificate
  • At least 10-15 years’ working experience in the mining industry.
  • Of the above, at least 10 years must have been spent in a supervisory / management role
  • Extensive Field Service, Spare Parts & Project Management experience in a Service environment
  • Strong technical knowledge on mining equipment, preferably materials handling and mineral processing related
  • Sound experience on delivering projects in Africa / cross border projects
  • Sound understanding of mining equipment maintenance strategies and the application of FMECA principles
  • Ability to deliver on remote projects while being able to accurately scope, cost and facilitate this from a remote location
  • SAP experience
  • Ability to manage a complex and dynamic work environment

  • It is foreseen that travel is essential to the role but limited to <25% of working time
