Mining Engineer (Mine Planning / Mine Scheduling / Mine Design / Mining Contractor / Open Pit) – Gauteng, South Africa

Job Description:
Our client is a leading mining contractor who require a Mining Engineer to be based at Head Office in Johannesburg. The main objection is to assist the estimating and tendering department with all aspects of Mining Engineering. This role reports directly into the Estimating Executive.
 
Responsibilities:
  • Attend sites visits and undertake investigations.
  • Conduct feasibility studies with option analysis
  • Complete technical due diligence
  • Conduct mine optimisation studies (Open Pit and Underground)
  • Responsible for maintaining effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders by liaising with clients, potential clients and consulting engineers and being a brand ambassador
  • Review material and labour requirements and prepare engineering analysis of projects.
  • Drafting mining method statements
  • Performance analysis for tasks within the mining cycle.
  • Modelling or designing and scheduling potential mine sites
  • Responsible for short, medium and long-term planning and mine schedules
  • Allocate timeframes to the respective project phases and activities.
  • Equipment resourcing
  • Labour force planning
  • Project specific value proposition with regards to mining engineering aspects
  • Mine costing principals: Fleet outputs; Resource cost make-up; General cost drivers; Financial Modelling
 
Requirements: Qualification and Skill
  • BSc Mining Engineering / B-Tech Degree Mining Engineering
  • Mine Manager’s Certificate of Competency will be advantageous
  • Tertiary qualification in Finance / Economics will be advantageous
  • At least 5 years’ experience in mine design and scheduling.
  • Minimum 3-5 years’ experience on site work experience (Operational exposure to costing, financial aspects to projects).
  • Must have both open pit and underground experience but main focus/expertise on open pit mining
  • A superior practical usage of mine design and scheduling software (preferable Surpac, Mine 2-4D, Datamine Whittle, XPAC, Deswik) aptitude
  • Advanced computer skills – especially MS Office
  • Strong numerical and verbal skills and technical aptitude
