Finance Manager (CA / Accounting / Budgeting / GAAP / Taxation) – Gauteng, South Africa

Job Description:
To manage the Financial Department according to sound financial systems, practices and processes that are compliant with relevant legislation, meet principles of international best practices and that will allow the organisation to achieve its strategic financial objectives. Direct reports are Bookkeepers and this role reports directly in to the Managing Director.
Financial systems management
  • Establish and maintain mechanisms for budgeting, financial controls, accounting, costing, reporting, treasury and funding
  • Establish and maintain a management information system
Financial planning and reporting
  • Prepare and revise departmental budgets against the business plans
  • Compile monthly, quarterly and annual accounts and audited annual financial statements
  • Provide accurate financial (including budget and variance) reports and schedules as required
Financial advice and direction
  • Provide financial inputs into the preparation of Business Plans
  • Provide advice on tax-related issues
  • Provide key financial inputs into project decisions
Sound financial management
  • Verify Bank Cash General receipts and payments
  • Verify supplier’s claims and reconcile supplier statements to effect payment
  • Ensure all taxation matters are in order
  • Ensure compliance of all policies, procedures and systems with legislative, shareholder and statutory requirements (including PFMA, Treasury regulations) and advise accordingly (incl. advise on corporate governance)
  • Monitor adherence to financial systems and processes
  • Plan, direct and manage the activities of the department to ensure efficient discharge of accounting obligations in line with GAAP, IFRS and legislation
  • Manage the section within time and budget
  • Plan, select, develop and maintain suitable manpower capabilities for the function
  • Develop, lead and maintain a motivated and high-performance team
  • Identify and timeously address functional related problems and opportunities
  • Build and maintain relationships with stakeholders
  • Provide technical direction
  • Ensure compliance with relevant legal and statutory requirements and internationally accepted environmental, health, safety and quality standards
  • Detailed understanding of the business and business strategy
  • Driving strategic initiatives and growth within the team, alongside key business partners
  • Understanding of M&A transactions and business integration
Requirements: Qualification and Skill
  • Relevant tertiary degree
  • Chartered Accountant, CFA qualification
  • 8 years broad-based financial management experience (post articles) in a relevant industry with at least 3 years in a similar senior management capacity
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Practice (GAAP) and International Accounting Standards (IAS)
  • Knowledge of relevant financial legislation (e.g. Public Finance and Management Act)
  • Knowledge of Financial Modelling and Taxation (Company, Personal and VAT)
  • Must possess strong leadership skills, good at driving accountability and taking initative
  • Must be able to work in a multi-cultural environment with a young, dynamic team
