DRC Country Manager (Mining / French / Ops Management / Strategic / Optimisation / Business Growth) – DRC, Central Af

Job Description:
Responsible for the development and implementation of the regions’ business growth and sustainability strategies, budgets, cash flow management and the management of diverse day-to-day operational activities including but not limited to inventory management, sales, financial management, risk management, SHERQ and people management. This role will ensure that proper governance is followed in the region and that all internal and external audits are complied with. This role reports directly into the GM: Southern Africa and a dotted line to the GM Technology & Marketing and Legal Counsel based in South Africa.

  • Developed and executed DRC business strategy and implementation plan
  • In collaboration with senior management develop long-term business growth strategy and annual operating plans and budgets. 
  • Develops strategies to identify prospective customers, strategic partners and collaborative relationships that will drive sustainable revenue growth, market penetration and profitability
  • Provides the requisite market and product opportunity assessment including regional customer and competitor analysis, market trend analysis and uses this information to inform future business plans
  • prepare models to support new business opportunities
  • Provide the regions direction in terms of product development to ensure the region delivers superior products and services to its customers
  • Partners with relevant functions i.e. Commercial to prepare models to support new business opportunities
  • Sound and reliable financial performance
  • To produce reliable sales, revenue and profit margins targets supported by sound assumptions to ensure achievement of these metrics
  • Attain the financial objectives of the business through effective management of people, product, service and facility processes, including a focus on revenue and profit margins
  • Partners with the various Country Managers to develop and implement profit improvement plans
  • Forecasts accurately to meet demand and required inventory levels
  • Understands product flow and actions the delivery of product to site to meet customer requirements
  • Ensure balance sheet and cash flow is managed to deliver on budgeted objectives
  • Ensures that assets are maintained and use effectively per contract, and develops and maintains a reliable asset register
  • Reliable and sustainable business performance Monitoring and Evaluation Reporting
  • Develops and continuously improve relevant business performance metrics that provide reliable business performance information and ensures the achievement of business objectives
  • Identifies and develops appropriate reporting processes to track performance and bring about operational efficiencies
  • Provides on-time financial, cost-optimisation, forecasting, quarterly, monthly and ad-hoc reports as and when required
  • Instils a culture of performance and continuous improvement
  • Optimised and delivery-enabled Africa Operations design and setup for sustained value delivery
  • Leads and manages day-to-day operational activities of the region to meet business objectives 
  • Leads and manages day-to-day operations relating to safety, health, environment, risk and quality
  • Leads, manages and develops human resources to form mission-directed teams to achieve regional business objectives
  • Promotes a culture that promotes ethical practices, customer focus and service and encourages individual integrity and maintain a positive and ethical work climate that is conducive to attracting, retaining and motivating a diverse group of top-quality high performing employees
Requirements: Qualification and Skill
  • Relevant bachelors’ degree or similar
  • MBA and Project Management certification highly advantageous
  • 10 years’ experience in a senior management position in a complex and highly transactional multi-project/operational environment
  • At least 10 years’ experience mining environment, with explosives exposure ideally
  • Fully bilingual in English and French
  • A solid track record in operational and workflow optimisation
  • Strong knowledge of all risk and compliance relating to mining in DRC
  • Proven track record of complex operational efficiency change programs
  • Sound financial management and costing knowledge
  • Exposure to quality management systems in an operations environment
  • Exposure to quality management environment 
  • Ability to develop and execute effective strategies and strategic plans
  • Complex Problem Solving
  • AX or major ERP system experience
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Working knowledge of local tax regulations
