Emergency Services Superintendent (Mining / Paramedic / Fire Fighting / Security) – Central Africa

Job Description:
The incumbent will be responsible for implementing and maintaining an effective paramedic first response, emergency response, and management and recovery system. They will be instrumental in advising management on all such issues.
  • Respond to emergency situations in a timely and effective manner, in order to minimize personal injury and suffering, damage to property, or loss of production. 
  • Ensure all section personnel are competent to perform their duties. 
  • Contribute to effective promotion and awareness education to encourage optimum levels of volunteer participation in Emergency Services activities. 
  • Maintain availability of Emergency Services stock and equipment by ensuring there are procedures for correct usage, replacement, care and maintenance.
  • Manage the Fitness for work programme across the operation in accordance with Boss Mining policies and procedures.
  • Provide Paramedic and ER coverage when ER Officers are absent. At these times you will be on call 24/7.
  • Assist in keeping an injured/ill person stable for up to 24 hours prior to evacuation.
  • Ensure there is an effective Emergency Management and Emergency response plan that is aligned to both business units and has synergies wherever possible.
  • Communicate and implement these plans across the concessions.
  • Build an effective ER team and training facility to cater for the likely scenarios on site.
  • Work in close liaison with security services to establish emergency response, evacuation plans and the capability to execute these.
  • Effectively identify and manage section budget to provide a level of service commensurate with the site’s needs.
  • Identify, allocate and commit expenditure so as to ensure compliance with company policy.
  • Comply with all contractor review and selection procedures, and document these to provide protection and enhancement of the business.
  • Ensure operation compliance with environmental regulations and Boss Mining requirements.
  • Ensure all members of the team are aware of these requirements and apply them across the site.
Requirements: Qualification and Skill
  • Qualification in paramedic, firefighting, mine site emergency response or similar.
  • Car and light truck class driver’s licenses.
  • Significant experience in coordinating paramedics, Fire Officers, Emergency Services Officer, Security Officers.
  • Experience in open pit mining, process plants and community incidents.
