Job Description:

My client is seeking an experienced Mine Planning Superintendent to develop short range mine plans, designs, and schedules for the efficient mining of their reserves in West Africa. To judiciously carry out tailings management and disposal planning for the operations, ensure (through monitoring and follow-up) the operational adherence to plans, and to oversee/train junior engineers, trainees and other subordinates in the contemporary processes, techniques, and art of effective mine planning
  • Use MicroMine, Surpac, MineMap, MineSched, and affiliated mining packages to perform mine planning functions
  • Support and make inputs into the development and revision of Annual Operating Plans (AOPs), using information from mining operations, geologists and metallurgy;
  • Prepare detailed rolling 12-month mining plans primarily for mining production and metallurgical purposes;
  • Prepare and update throughout the year, the infrastructural developments essential to mining, environmental, community services, geological and future mining considerations; 
  • Prepare monthly forecasts of ore characteristics and quantities for management approval;
  • Develop and refine, based on the approved forecast, the monthly mining plans to direct current mining operations;
  • Produce mining block and pit designs to guide the planning processes;
  • Validate and review block models for the planning process;
  • Plan the tailings containment areas and monitor the deposition to ensure that no environmental degradation occurs;
  • Ensure that pit and dam geotechnical parameters are adhered to;
  • Visit the mining operations to advise on optimal equipment usage and ensure that mining is to plan;
  • Ensure that surveyors correctly stake out areas to mine as per plan;
  • Contribute to the preparation of the annual budget.
  • Provide support in preparing the annual reserve report;
  • Prepare the monthly production reconciliation report which includes tonnages mined, grades, cost, grade control etc.;
  • Supervision of staff
Requirements: Qualification and Skill:
  • A degree in Mining Engineering;
  • A minimum of five (5) years’ work experience in a senior role within the mineral sands industry;
  • Adeptness in the  use of MS Office Suite;
  • The ability to think clearly and work productively under intense pressure within a demanding work environment;
  • Experience in the use of MicroMine, DataMine, MineSight, Surpac (or similar), and AutoCAD
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of mine planning work methods and techniques
  • Knowledge and understanding of mining/geology/survey principles, practices
  • The ability to manage time effectively and efficiently in accordance with work priorities
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; strong supervisory skills; ability to meet reporting deadlines, Ability to exercise initiative and be assertive
