Job Description:
The role is responsible for managing the overall credit function under the umbrella of the Bank's policies and guidelines. This is achieved by providing support, direction, credit information and lending policies and procedures to ensure the overall quality of the Bank's lending portfolio.
  • Evaluate worthiness of credit line proposals in light of the credit risk policy framework. Ensure that all credit memos in hPLUS are accurately processed.
  • Ensure up to date trading and financial information is received. Develop efficient methodologies for credit risk and recommend provisioning.
  • Oversee preparation of security documents, ensure safe custody of security documents, analyze periodic debtors lists and stock reports and ensure that insurance values and property valuations are updated.
  • Assist in formulating and implementing risk management policies, risk grading/rating mechanisms, credit approval templates, processes and systems, credit discretions and lending limits. Identify significant credit risks to the business of the Bank.
  • Assist in allocation/management of discretions, monitoring and evaluation of application of policies. Formulate strategies for aligning the credit function with the business objectives of the Bank. Budgeting and planning the allocation of resources for implementation thereof.
  • Sign off on all TOD, EOL, and over dues. Monitor loan books, approve limit sanctions and attend to legal matters.
  • Provide high level direction and support to respective departmental managers in regards to credit admin operations, as well as monitor and evaluate the performance.
  • Establish relationships with Branch and Relationship Managers to effectively monitor and understand the sources of business activity, resolve issues, alert the business & limit issues and visit clients when required.
  • Attend to annual renewal of facilities by the Chairman. Examine Credit reviews, analyze financials and SLA for branches.
  • Conduct training interventions relating to credit matters for the team.
  • Provide monthly reports and updates to the Credit Committee.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Manage ad hoc credit / risk projects assigned by Chief Risk Officer (CRO).
Requirements: Qualification and Skill
  • Extensive credit and risk practical experience – at least 10 years in the banking sector (not negotiable)
  • Postgraduate degree / MBA or equivalent masters level
  • South African citizen
  • Excellent verbal and written skills in English
