Job Description:
The Chief Financial Officer will exercise oversight and control over the Finance functions of the Company.
  • Prepare and submit for Executive committee’s approval on an ad hoc basis broad guidelines for the licensee’s tolerance for risk, and expectations from investment, including the loan portfolio
  • Prepare a monthly financial report on the business, assessing all aspects of the Company performance including disbursements, collections, provisions, yield, book expenses and operating expenses against budget and prior year and prior month amounts.
  • Manage all compliance and other investigations from relevant authorities 
  • Implement and maintain procedures and policies pertaining to Finance and Administration.
  • Maintain oversight of all financial transactions undertaken by the company within the policies and guidelines provided by the Group.
  • Compile all required reports, both Regulatory and Fiduciary, set deadlines and ensure timely submission of same to the Group CFO.
  • Review and conclude month-end financial reporting.
  • Reconcile the company’s general operating bank accounts.
  • Maintain the creditor’s ledgers, perform creditors reconciliation from the suppliers statement to the creditors ledger for all Suppliers and prepare payment.
  • Management of the company’s cash flow requirements.
  • Ensure adherence to the capital adequacy requirements.
  • Assist the Country CEO with budget preparation, monitoring and variance reporting.
  • Assist the Country CEO collating and providing commentary on the monthly reports for the Executive Committee (EXCO) and Technical Advisory Committee (TAC).
  • Ensure the assets of the business are sufficiently safeguarded and adhere to the systems of internal control in line with the Group’s policies and procedures.
  • Provide reconciliation of all fixed assets.
  • Remit statutory deductions (UIF; local council levies).
  • Ensure correctness/ accuracy of financial data.
  • Engage with auditors and facilitate year end audits.
  • Work with the CEO to ensure strategic aims are met.
Requirements: Qualification and Skill
  • Malawi national required
  • The successful candidate will ideally have a formal accounting or financial tertiary qualification.
  • The company will only look at candidates who have no less than 5 years relevant, post articles working experience.
  • The successful candidate will have previous experience as a Chief Financial Officer or as a Financial Manager.
  • Previous experience within the financial services industry is essential.
  • Banking experience will be highly advantageous.
  • A strong command of English, both written and verbal, is a requirement of the role
