Job Description:
Our client is seeking a Buying Officer to be responsible for the purchasing requirements, from requisition to pay, of the one of their Divisions situated in a Port in the Western Cape. They will report directly to the designated Procurement Practitioner and Supply Chain Manager.
 
Responsibilities:
  • Survey the market for best source of supply, contact potential suppliers and negotiate trade terms and discount structures and most favorable lead times
  • Evaluate quotes/tenders and make recommendations based on best commercial and technical factors
  • Includes technical purchasing and assisting the Procurement Practitioner with the compilation of master contracts
  • Minimise lead time variances according to customer requirements by administering the pre/post expediting process to ensure timeous delivery of goods or services
  • Suggest substitutes if items/services ordered are unavailable, or if a more economic product is technically suitable
  • Ensure strict adherence to governance and procurement policies and procedures as well as legislation in respect of importation of goods
  • Prioritise urgent order requests
  • Review price variances and ensure that they are investigated and brought to the attention of the Supply Chain Manager and that SAP information is accurate
  • Liaise with suppliers in respect of incorrect supplies or returns
  • Ensure stakeholder management is practiced with all relevant stakeholders and internal clients (Inport team, Supply Chain, Technical and Engineering functions)
  • Must be willing to work extended hours during Vessel Inports/Shutdowns
 
Requirements: Qualification and Skill
  • Certificate/Diploma in Purchasing or NQF equivalent
  • A minimum of 5 years buying/purchasing experience in a mining/engineering/technical environment
  • SAP ERP experience would be advantageous
  • Ability to read and scrutinize technical specifications and engineering drawings would be advantageous
