Our client based in Angola is currently looking for  a General Manager (Transport and Distribution) to train and lead the transport and related distribution teams in achieving a world-class comparable optimal- and cost-effective deployment of transport assets to effect on-time deliveries to our customers through the development of local talent within the framework of company business culture, values, and vision.

 
Responsibilities:
 
  • Direct investigations to verify and resolve customer-, shipper- or supplier complaints.
  • Collaborate with other managers and staff members in order to formulate-, change- and implement policies, procedures, goals, and objectives to further the achievement of an exceptional level of service excellence.
  • Promote safe work activities by conducting safety audits, attending company safety meetings, and meeting with individual staff members.
  • Develop criteria, application instructions, procedural manuals and contracts for future Railways, Ocean- and possibly, Air transportation programs.
  • Conduct investigations in cooperation with government agencies if required, to determine the causes of transportation accidents and improve safety procedures.
  • Negotiate and obtain authorization of contracts with equipment and materials suppliers, and monitor contract fulfillment.
  • Ensure all health and safety checks and routine vehicle- and transportation asset checks are adhered to in compliance with both company and statutory requirements.
  • Utilize services of less-than-truckload carriers and other transportation forwarders (road, rail, air, ship) to handle fulfillment shipments.
  • Ensure that all distribution and transportation planning and strategic activities are realistically achievable and in line with customer expectation.
 
Requirements: 
 
  •  Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Transport Economics, Supply Chain, Logistics or equivalent in experience.
  • An MBA would be advantageous
  • 10 year’s transport operational experience in an FMCG environment.
  • 5 years end-to-end supply chain experience
  • 5 years’ experience in a senior/general management role inclusive of financial management responsibilities.
  •  Experience working with an ERP system (SAP, SAGE, Triceps, etc).
  • Solid knowledge of supply chain management
  • Fluency in English as a minimum requirement (and if not Portuguese fluent as well, demonstrated commitment to achieve fluency in 12 months through approved language course).
