Job Description:
The purpose of the position is to promote corporate values and enable business success through the successful development, implementation, monitoring, and management of the duties listed below. The incumbent oversees all aspects of Human Resources practices and processes, supports business needs, and ensures the proper implementation of company strategy and objectives. The position furthermore entails planning, directing, supervising, and coordinating work activities of the Human Resources Department. This role reports directly in to the General Manager.
Implement and Maintain HR frameworks:
  • Compile, update, and implement relevant HR policies and procedures and ensure adherence to such;
  • Develop and manage HR Information Systems (including HR, Payroll, Leave, and Timekeeping systems);
  • Ensure accurate maintenance of current and historical human resource records and ensure protection (privacy) of data;
  • Produce management and statutory reports;
  • Implement HR best practices and ensure good governance and adherence to statutory and audit requirements;
Manpower Planning and Job Design:
  • Assist with organizational design;
  • Maintain the work structure by ensuring job descriptions and requirements are updated and implemented for all positions
Compensation and Benefit Management:
  • Propose remuneration strategy and policy to management;
  • Implement salary structures and advise on remuneration matters;
  • Perform job grading and ensure internal and external equity;
  • Manage the complete payroll process;
  • Implement and oversee the administration of relevant company benefits;
Recruitment and Selection:
  • Facilitate the recruitment and selection processes;
  • Evaluate, propose, and implement attraction and retention strategies;
  • Review employment contracts and terms and conditions of employment;
  • Ensure HR induction is performed;
  • Evaluate and manage pre-employment assessments and conditions;
  • Support expat administration;
  • Consider and support local employment and empowerment initiatives;
Workplace Relations and Employee Wellbeing:
  • Facilitate healthy workplace relations and communication between management and staff;
  • Be the primary contact with staff representative bodies;
  • Perform specialized tasks relating to discipline and grievances;
  • Identify and address employee wellness requirements;
Training and Development:
  • Manage the development of training and development initiatives and individual development plans;
  • Give direction on bursary and internship programs;
  • Support line managers in terms of their departmental training plans;
  • Design and implement performance management tools and advise Line Managers on performance management;
Strategic Objectives and General Support:
  • Assist management with achieving the strategic objectives of the organization;
  • Partner with all departments on various matters;
  • Provide guidance and corrective measures on workplace matters;
  • Provide information and reports, as required;
  • Prepare and manage HR, training, and payroll budgets;
  • Manage contracts of HR service and labour providers;
  • Support company initiatives and be involved in identifying organizational risk and implementing and managing controls; and
  • Ensure continuous improvement of HR services
Requirements: Qualification and Skill
  • Relevant Bachelor of Commerce Degree, Honors is preferred, obtained from a reputable institution;
  • Minimum of 8 years’ experience at a HR managerial level, preferably in the mining industry;
  • Advanced knowledge/skills are required in the following areas:
  • Developing constructive and cooperative working relationships and maintaining them;
  • Negotiating and facilitating;
  • Ability to analyze information and evaluate results to choose the best course of action;
  • Business and management principles;
  • Fluent in English and French;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite;
  • Must lead by example and be able to practice self-management, be a self-starter, and instill credibility;
  • Must be a hands-on manager and be able to work for lengthy periods under consistently high work pressure;
  • Has the ability to multi-task and manage deadlines; and
  • Possession of a driver’s license
