Job Description:
Responsible for managing Customs activities, procedures & documentation of a francophone African administration involving the whole range of imports and exports for a large operating and developing mine. This role reports directly in to the Supply Chain Manager.
 
Responsibilities:
  • Design, maintain and communicate routine financial and operational reporting systems
  • Develop a sound logistics strategy
  • Develop and implement freight strategies and plans
  • Collaborate with the Supply Chain Management team and Senior Management to develop new and improve existing processes to maximize efforts for delivery of services to the operation
  • Negotiate with clearing agents, customs officials, and key players within scope of role
  • Explain Customs’ requirements to end users and maintain cargo distribution discipline      
  • Maintain Shipping, import / export freight and related document control
  • Collaborate with key internal stakeholders in identifying supply needs relative to projects being undertaken by the company
  • Lead a Congolese team to produce consistently reliable results
  • Establish and maintain a cordial relationship with internal customers and external suppliers
  • Participate in project teams or lead projects according to Company standards
  • Interpret and comply with legal documents and directives
 
Requirements: Qualification and Skill
  • Senior Diploma/ Certificate – Grade 12/ A levels or similar
  • Diploma in Supply Chain Management/Logistics or similar
  • Either previously worked in similar role on a mine or for a clearing agent (e.g. Comexis or the like) dealing in the movement of minerals, with at least 6 years’ experience in a management role
  • Valid driving license
  • Computer Literacy including ERP Systems knowledge
  • Must previously worked as an Expat (preferably DRC)
  • Must be fluent in French and English (Belgian would be a plus)
  • Must have previously had dealings working with Government in preparing licences and related paperwork
  • Ability to motivate staff and maintain a positive company image
