Job Description

As an Accounting Assistant, you will be part of the Accounting department. You will provide administrative support to the Accounting Manager, undertaking various accounting, bookkeeping and clerical tasks. The role involves assisting the Accounting Manager and Senior Management in the maintenance, reporting and management of the company’s finances.

Responsibilities:
  • To manage day to day operations of the accounts department
  • To manage accounts payable (bill payments, salaries, petty cash etc.) and receivable in a timely manner
  • To audit, verify and validate client and supplier invoices with the specific contracts and the Payroll department
  • To establish and maintain fiscal files and records to document transactions
  • To maintain and reconcile cash / financial accounts
  • To maintain spreadsheets for monitoring and analyzing accounting data and prepare financial reports
  • To enforce credit control
  • To work with journals, sales & purchase ledgers and spreadsheets
  • To handle insurance for company and contractors.
  • To assist with annual audits and provide recommendations for improving procedures and systems for initiating corrective actions
  • To assist the Accounting Manager with the bookkeeping of foreign entities (Congo, Mozambique and Angola)
  • To manage administrative duties such as telephone support, filing, transcription, stationary and production of forms when required.
 
Skills and Qualifications:
  • Mauritian nationality.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field; or ACCA partly qualified.
  • Minimum experience required: 1-2 years
  • Fluent in French and English
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of the accounting principles, practices, standards and laws & regulations
  • Thorough working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and an accounting software is an asset
  • Proficiency in analyzing and manipulating huge volume of data
  • A willingness to learn and evolve in the company
  • Excellent organization and administrative skills with attention to detail
  • Discretion is a must as you will be handling a firm’s financials
  • Interpersonal skills: ability to work well with others and communicate well as you will be working with payroll consultants and the Accounting Manager.
