Job Description:
An exciting opportunity exists within a leading South African finance group to oversee the financial reporting and provide related business support on the relevant Corporate and Wealth products, which includes Income, Protection and Investment offerings.

  • Financial & Risk Reporting:  Effectively manage teams, comprising both actuaries and students, to oversee the financial reporting (valuation, capital and other risk reporting) and provide related business support on the relevant Corporate and Wealth products (Income, Protection & Investment offerings), within agreed deadlines and with appropriate supporting commentary to deliver quality and timeous reporting.
  • Business Planning / Forecasting: Produce information for forecasting and ongoing monitoring (outside of valuation periods) of the financial impacts of the business strategy.
  • Business Partnering: Extract insights for business consideration and collaborate effectively with both business and specialized areas across all levels. The successful individual will demonstrate a sound understanding of the key financial drivers across the product ranges.
  • Reporting Capability:  Ensure processes and models are efficient, robust and fit for purpose. Drive synergies and standardization across the product reporting teams, and ensure the control environment is adequate and effective.
  • The role requires sound technical knowledge as well as the ability to effectively manage and coach team members.
  • The role will also require participation in various projects, which will present opportunities to develop further insights and influence reporting within and across the various teams.
Qualifications and Experience:
  • Qualified Actuary.
  • 8 years experience.
  • Highly motivated self-starters with a strong deadline driven ethic.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Exposure to leading a team (advantageous).
  • High levels of drive, energy and innovation.
  • Business acumen and negotiation skills.
  • Strong sense of ownership.
  • A self-starter able to think on his/her feet.
  • Ability to influence colleagues outside Product Solutions to achieve delivery.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
