General Manager – Production Business (Food / Pharma / Cosmetics) – Accra Ghana

Objective of role:
  • Deliver the business plan
  • Lead the Management Team
  • Provide recommendations on long-term strategy and direction to the Board
 
Responsibilities:
 
Sales
  • Immediately accountable for the delivery of sales targets for the own brand, working with the Sales Manager
  • Accountable and responsible for delivery of sales targets for co-packing customers and any others and the day-to-day management of said customers
 
Operations
  • Accountable for the delivery of production targets – on-time, on-budget and on-quality – working with the Operations Manager and Technical Director
  • Accountable for ensuring that all equipment is well maintained, working with the Operations Manager
 
Finance
  • Accountable for ensuring the cost-effective use of all financial resources and setting and controlling operational and capital budgets, working with the Finance Manager
  • Accountable for ensuring that monthly management reports are delivered to the Board in a timely manner and agreed format, working with the Finance Manager
  • Accountable for ensuring that the Finance Manager maintains good standing and productive relations with government agencies including the Freezones Board, GIPC, BoG, GRA, CEPS (customs), SSNIT, etc. and the factory landlord
  • Accountable for ensuring timely and cost-effective logistics, working with the Logistics Manager and future Supply Chain Manager
 
Quality Assurance
  • Accountable for ensuring quality assurance and compliance (Halal, FSSC 22000 and any others, as necessary), working with the QA Manager and Technical Director
  • Responsible for ensuring that the HACCP manual is continually reviewed and updated by the QA Manager
  • Accountable for the delivery of the QA work plan, developed by the QA Manager with the assistance of the Technical Director
  • Accountable for ensuring compliance with all other safety and legal requirements, for example maintaining training records and incidence records
  • Accountable for ensuring that the QA Manager maintains good standing and productive relations with government agencies including the FDA and EPA
 
Admin
  • Accountable for ensuring the smooth and effective management of all other administrative matters, working with the Admin Manager
  • Accountable for ensuring that the Admin Manager maintains good standing and productive relations with government agencies including municipal authorities and legal regulators (e.g. fire safety)
 
Requirements: Qualification and Skill
 
  • Working experience in production at a senior level – areas of food, pharma or cosmetics preferred
  • Experience working in Ghana & West Africa preferred
  • Experience working in a smaller / start-up company
  • Local & international candidates are being considered
  • Hands-on and practical
  • Quick learner
  • Strong people-leadership and management and planning skills
  • Motivated by a results-oriented package
  • Ability to operate in an early-stage pre-breakeven environment
  • Correct attitude and aptitude to take on a challenging role
  • Leadership experience in a manufacturing environment, ideally in food production
  • Leadership experience in a sales/marketing environment
