Responsibilities:
  • Overall planning and execution of Afreximbank’s equity raising initiatives to ensure that the target amount of equity is raised each year, whilst adhering to the shareholding distribution by class as approved by Senior Management;
  • Undertaking comprehensive analysis of any equity raising proposals for Afreximbank, on the back of which Senior Management can make well- informed decisions related to capital mobilization;
  • Identifying potential equity investors, ascertaining their investment objectives as well as constraints to participate in Afreximbank’s equity based on the Bank’s current Charter terms;
  • Structuring innovative equity raising instruments through which potential investors can realize their investment objectives (or overcome their investments constraints) whilst simultaneously, enabling Afreximbank to raise the desired equity capital at  the cost approved by Senior Management and within the set timelines;
  • Conducting research on capital markets in Africa and other regions to identify markets with regulatory regimes which permit Afreximbank to launch its equity offerings;
  • Developing and nurturing relationships with capital market regulators in Africa and beyond to facilitate the Bank’s equity offerings in regulated markets or in cases where current regulations do not permit, to motivate for reforms which would make the Bank’s equity offerings possible;
  • Preparing marketing materials (for example teasers, investor presentations and offering documents) which would be used to pitch Afreximbank’s equity story to potential investors;
  • Planning all equity issuance roadshows into various markets and coordinating proceedings during these roadshows in order to achieve the intended objectives more effectively;
  • Ensuring that a repository of information required by potential investors for due diligence purposes is in place and coordinating all investor due diligence exercises to ensure that only accurate and relevant information as approved by Senior Management is provided to the potential investors  on time;
  • Following up on equity subscriptions by potential investors to ensure that payments are received on time;
  • In line with the Bank’s Procurement Guidelines, managing the entire procurement process for advisors who may be engaged to assist the Bank in raising equity and effectively supervising advisors thus engaged, to ensure that they complete the assigned tasks within the stipulated timelines;
  • Monitoring markets analysts’ coverage reports for Afreximbank and if any adverse reporting occurs, work with the relevant units within the Bank to rectify such misleading reports; 
  • Developing operating guidelines, policies and procedures to guide the operations of the Equity Mobilization  Unit;
  • Preparing timely and accurate reports on equity mobilization for Senior Management and the Board of Directors  as appropriate;
  • Coaching and mentoring junior staff in the unit to obtain their maximum commitment to achieve the unit’s performance targets each year; and
  • Any other duties as assigned by Senior Management.
 
Requirements: Qualification and Skill
  • First degree from a leading University in either Finance, Economics, Accounting, Business Administration or other disciplines relevant to the position;
  • Candidates should hold a post graduate degree in a related field from a reputable university, with at least 8 years of relevant experience. However, candidates without a post graduate degree but with a recognized investment management qualifications (e.g. CFA) and at least 8 years of relevant corporate finance/investment banking experience in an international commercial environment may also apply;
  • Extensive knowledge of equity markets and equity mobilization, including the management of IPOs and rights share issues;
  • Prior experience should include knowledge of finance, banking, international capital markets, and business planning/development;
  • Experience as a financial analyst, industry analyst or similar work in finance is an added advantage;
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interact  and communicate with senior officials of banks, corporates and governments;
  • Demonstrable problem-solving, quantitative, and analytical skills; strategic and creative thinking;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English. Knowledge of  the Bank's other working languages is an added advantage (French, Arabic and Portuguese); and
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities, including ability to organize and manage human resources from varied cultural backgrounds to attain goals.
